Co-curricular Enrichment Programme (Extra-Curricular Activities ECAs)

At MIS we recognise that there is a strong association between student involvement in additional activities and improved attendance, behavior and academic performance.

We aim to provide the children with outstanding opportunities to develop their skills in a wide range of activities both inside and alongside the curriculum. We call the extra-curricular activities ‘co-curricular’, as they are as important as a student’s academic studies.

Our exciting co-curricular programme takes place after school and all students are encouraged to participate in at least one activity per week, allowing each to reach their potential no matter where their passions lie.
These activities offer a good opportunity to interact with children from other classes, work with other teachers and to have fun learning a new skill while doing something enjoyable.

For older students the co-curricular programme provides an ideal opportunity to develop leadership skills

Co-curricular Enrichment Programme (Extra-Curricular Activities ECAs)

Research shows that students who participate in some type of co-curricular activity perform better at school than students who are not involved. There is a strong association between student involvement in additional activities and improved attendance, behavior and academic performance.

At MIS we aim to provide the children with outstanding opportunities to develop their skills in a wide range of activities both inside and alongside the curriculum. We call the extra-curricular activities ‘co-curricular’, as they are as important as a student’s academic studies.

Our exciting co-curricular programme takes place after school and all students are encouraged to participate in at least one activity per week, allowing each to reach their potential no matter where their passions lie.

Whether they come to life on the stage, on the sports field, or in one of our many clubs or activities, we know that MIS students will develop valuable skills which will be transferable beyond their time at school; they will learn how to communicate effectively, how to interact as part of a team and will acquire organisational skills.

Our co-curricular programme provides an excellent opportunity for students to round out their education with activities that may not be typically available during the school day.

These activities offer a good opportunity to interact with children from other classes, work with other teachers and to have fun learning a new skill while doing something enjoyable. .

With activities boosting a young person’s confidence to interact socially with others, extending their social networks and providing them with new skills and abilities, participation in co-curricular activities is vital for the physical and psychological wellbeing so important for a healthy life

Information on co-curricular programme participation is included in students termly reports.

We are grateful to our dedicated members of staff who give up many hours in co-curricular activities and we are proud of the numbers of students that participate.

Co-curricular Enrichment Programmes and Personal Development Records

The students of MIS are fortunate to study within a strong academic programme particularly rich in opportunities for language development and STEAM education.

The progress and achievements of each student will be recorded and celebrated in their Academic Record which will follow them through to university and future careers.

In an increasingly competitive world, we are also aware of the very necessary 21st Century ‘soft skills’ that include character traits, attitudes, and behaviors—rather than technical aptitudes or knowledge. We are looking for motivation and commitment, enthusiasm, ambition, talents, and interpersonal skills.

Running parallel to Academic Records, our after school Co-curricular enrichment programmes, allow each student to compile a Personal Development Record recording their efforts in:

Creativity and Inventiveness
Including progress and achievements in the Creative and Performing Arts
E.g., musical instrument tuition (school or home), drama or dance lessons (school or home)

Adventure and Challenge
Including progress and achievements in Physical Development including Individual and Teamwork activities. E.g., swimming certificates, Taekwondo lessons and belts awarded, school basketball team.

Leadership and Service
Including progress and achievements in leadership and service in school/other organisational activities E.g., in the school setting: prefects, school council representatives, house-captains, librarians etc.
