The MIS Houses are an integral part of our school community, and aim to provide every student with:

• a sense of belonging within the school community,
• opportunities to develop social, intellectual, physical and practical skills,
• a sense of achievement both inside and outside of the classroom
including through the fun and excitement of inter-house competitions.

Students are assigned to one of our four Houses when they join the school; entering a system which is designed to develop an awareness of individual and collective responsibility and opportunities for student leadership.

Each House elects House Captains / Vice-captains who will act as representatives for all the students in their house throughout the year by helping to coordinate house teams, organise activities and events, and represent their house at relevant meetings.

The House system searches for ways in which students and staff can feel more connected to, and involved in, the community around them. The school enjoys a year-long programme of inter-house events in a wide variety of fields including sporting, artistic, cultural and academic studies.

Students and Staff wear their coloured House t-shirts each Friday for team building challenges and activities.

Trophies are awarded to winning Houses in each competition. Overall points contribute to the award of the much-coveted House Champions Shield at the end of the academic year.

House Point Rewards

The supervising House Staff will ensure that each student gets the most out of his/her school life. They will see that students settle into school life well and will ensure that all students in the House work hard, attend regularly, are punctual, well-mannered and that they make good progress both academically and socially as they go through the school.

Students who feel comfortable and supported enough to participate in MIS House events are more likely to feel able to commit themselves fully to their academic studies.

One way students may be rewarded for their effort, progress and achievement is through our House Point Rewards system.

Points can be awarded to a member of a house for a number of reasons e.g.
• Excellence (sporting, behaviour, attendance, etc.)
• Participation (theatre, house events, etc.)
• Perseverance (personal hardship, dedication, etc.)
• Effort (extra-curricular activities, etc.)
• Courtesy (assistance, generosity, kindness, etc.)
• Academic work and endeavour.

One House Point = Good
Two House Points = Very Good
Three House Points = Excellent
Four/Five House Points = Exceptional

(This last reward is reserved for Directors only and awarded to students whose achievements have surpassed the previous three-point scale and/or represented MIS in our wider community, nationally or internationally).

Individual awards and certificates are provided to students who excel in effort progress and achievement.

30 House Points = Bronze Award
50 House Points = Silver Award
100 House Points = Gold Award
150 House Points = Platinum Award

Bronze, silver and gold award winners will receive their certificates during assemblies.
Platinum award winners are recognised at the End of Year Assembly.

Overall points contribute to the award of the much-coveted House Champions Shield at the end of the academic year. The winning House is announced during the End of Year Assembly and the House Captains will be presented with the House Champions Shield.
